Any certified employee within the Beaverton School District who signs up for membership, including certified substitute members. Q. How many members does BEA have? A. Counting our substitute members, we have approximately 2,600 members. Q. How do I know if I'm a member? A. Ask your building representative or BEA's office secretary. Q. How do I become a member? A. Fill out a membership application and send it in to the BEA office. Q. What does membership cost? A. Dues are based on our first salary step according to our bylaws. Where can I find the latest information on PERS? A. On the OEA website and the PERS website. Q. If our building is short on substitutes and I'm asked to cover a class, what are my options? A. Make sure the request is coming from the administration and not a peer. Then fill out the Sub Shortage Authorization form to be paid for the time. You can also say, "No, thank you," if it doesn't fit into your schedule. Q. The different types of leaves are confusing. How can I find out the best way to access them? A. Look in your Collective Bargaining Agreement Article 15 and contact the BEA President with any further questions. Q. What do I do if my administrator has asked to have a meeting with me and I suspect it may be disciplinary? A. Ask your building representative, BEA President, BEA Vice President, or Uniserv Consultant to attend the meeting with you. It is your right.
